Forest Installation
Stairwell Feature, Cancer Centre Hospital, 2008
[Temporary Pictures]
Recently completed is a commission for an installation in
the new Cancer Centre Hospital that is being built on the
Churchill Hospital site. The installation is situated at the
top of the main stairwell, beneath a skylight and comprises
of twenty-two large pieces of glass, which will be suspended
on steel cables. The inspiration for the pieces is based upon
the ginkgo leaf, as the ginkgo tree survived the atom bomb
in Hiroshima, the leaf was felt to be a fitting metaphor for
a centre dedicated to survival. The building is currently
due to open in November 2008.
